Scent – Getting Started: Buddy Spohn
Have you been wanting to start scent detection training with your dog, but you aren’t sure where to start or what’s required?
Join us for an evening of scent detection training. Detection training is a fantastic and engaging activity for dogs and handlers to participate in. The mental and physical stimulation provided from scent work can be an incredible outlet for dogs and the sky is the limit for how detailed you wish to go.
This seminar is an introduction to the fundamentals of detection training. It will cover the methods used in the Pro Dog scent detection course and some other interesting discussion points.
Topics will include:
Foundation skills a dog needs to begin (markers/reward systems/obedience skills
Constructing the equipment you’ll need to get started
What traits make a successful detection dog?
The characteristics of odour
Teaching the dog to hunt
Handler mechanics and much more.
This workshop has both a theory and practical component, with a strong focus on practical application. The dog spots are there to demo the skills discussed to the wider audience. The workshop is equally valuable to those attending with or without a dog.
Dog Spots: We have a limit of 5 dog spots (by application only once you have purchased a non-refundable auditor spot). If you are interested in a dog spot please email through your dog’s behavioural history, their current training level and your behavioural goals relating to this topic in an email application to us after you have purchased your ticket.
Our team will need to sight proof of a current C5 vaccination (or equivalent) prior to attending the seminar. Please also ensure your dogs are up to date with their worming/flea/tick treatments.
Catering: Tea/coffee and light snacks.
Refund policy: Pro Dog will only offer a refund or exchange of a ticket if an event is cancelled, rescheduled or significantly relocated by the Seller (and you cannot or do not wish to attend the rescheduled or relocated event), or to the extent otherwise required by law (including the Australian Consumer Law).
