Value of Engagement: Dave Mckelson, April 29th

Note: Dog spots are full. General viewing still available.

The missing piece for so many handlers is developing reliable behaviour in distracting and new environments. “My dog is great at home, but they completely dip out and give me nothing in new places.”  We’ve all been there and it’s disheartening. Engagement isn’t about focus. We can teach focus as a simple exercise. Engagement is an attitude. It’s a dog’s desire to be with its handler, interact with them and a reflection of the value the dog places in them, over all other environmental factors.

Learn key strategies and skills that will transform your relationship with your dog. Develop a better understanding of what your dog truly needs/desires, then create processes and activities that fulfil those needs. In this workshop we will run through the theory and practical demonstrations of how you can build your relationship and shift your dog’s value back to you. Develop a highly engaged dog that has a stronger recall and is far less likely to run off at their first chance.

This workshop has both a theory and practical component, with a strong focus on practical application. The dog spots are there to demo the skills discussed to the wider audience. We will be selecting a range of dogs to best demo the focus skills and the challenges we all come up against. We do this so the workshop is equally valuable to those attending with or without a dog.

Dog Spots:  We have a limit of 6 dog spots (by application only once you have purchased a non-refundable auditor spot). If you are interested in a dog spot please email through your dog’s behavioural history, their current training level and your behavioural goals in an email application to us after you have purchased your ticket.

It is important that we have a range of dogs with varied behavioural responses for the workshop. With this being the case you may not be selected if your dog presents the same behaviour as another dog attending. The purpose of dog spots is to demonstrate our practices and how they work across a range of varied dog types.

Our team will need to sight proof of a current C5 vaccination (or equivalent) prior to attending the seminar. Please also ensure your dogs are up to date with their worming/flea/tick treatments.
